What DoorWorthy reads, and where.

Every figure on the site comes from a record listed on this page, with the year or quarter it describes. The national datasets cover every address. The city records, the health inspections and the zoning maps cover only the places named below; anywhere else, the report says the layer is not read rather than guessing.

Everywhere

15 datasets, each loaded by a script on its own schedule. The vintage is the agency’s own: a Census year, a BLS quarter or a release date.

City records by address

11 cities publish building permits and 8 publish food establishment inspections in a form the report can read: a date and a map point for every row. Permits cover the last two years; inspections run through the date shown. A statewide file counts for every town in the state. New portals are found by a monthly search of Socrata and ArcGIS catalogs.

Zoning

In Dallas, University Park, Austin, Chicago the report reads the city’s own zoning service district by district, with overlays and special use permits where the city publishes them. Elsewhere it reads the zoning map a city or county publishes on ArcGIS, when one exists, and names the district under the address. A district code is the city’s classification of the land, not a permission for any use; the use table is read from the ordinance. 354 published maps were found on Oct 22, 2026. Where no map covers an address, the report names the planning office to ask.

What is not read

Listing sites are never scraped and no availability is invented. Permit portals that can be searched but are not published as data (most Accela and Tyler portals) are not read. Race and ethnicity are never an input to any measure or score. When a layer is missing for an address, the report’s coverage figure says so and the score is computed from what was measured.
