Who needs a physician responsibility for laser and injectable procedures in Alaska?

Issued by Alaska State Medical Board; Alaska Board of Nursing, at step 4 of 6 in the opening sequence: get the permits for your kind of business.

1 of the 20 kinds of business in Alaska

Laser hair removal, other energy-based treatments and injectables are the practice of medicine: performed by a physician, or by a nurse or physician assistant under a physician’s delegation and supervision within their own board’s rules. The Medical Board treats delegating a procedure to someone without the licensure or training it requires as unprofessional conduct, and an esthetician’s scope covers only temporary hair removal, not lasers. The Medical Board and the Board of Nursing convened a medical spa work group in 2024 to write joint delegation guidance, so expect new rules.
