Who needs a physician supervision of laser and cosmetic medical procedures in Mississippi?

Issued by Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure, at step 4 of 6 in the opening sequence: get the permits for your kind of business.

1 of the 20 kinds of business in Mississippi

The Board treats the use of a laser, pulsed light or similar device for invasive or cosmetic procedures as the practice of medicine, limited to a physician or to a person the physician directly supervises, with the physician on the premises and ready to step in. Injectables and other energy-based treatments are medical services as well. Estheticians may not operate lasers. A 2024 bill to loosen laser hair removal supervision (HB 1222) died in the Senate, so the rule stands.
