File through the Business.CT.gov online portal; paper annual reports are not accepted. The certificate names a statutory agent with a Connecticut street address. The annual report fee rose from $20 to $80 in July 2020 when the business entity tax was repealed, and the report window is the same for every LLC whatever its formation date.

Connecticut has no general business license at the state or town level. Licensing is by activity: food through the local health department, liquor through the Department of Consumer Protection, practitioners through the Department of Public Health. Check with the town clerk for any local permit, such as a sign or sidewalk permit, before signing the lease.

Approve the spaceOpens after step 2
Confirm the zoning allows your use before signing; the building official may not issue a building permit until the zoning officer certifies the use, and a space altered or changed in use may not be occupied until the building official issues the certificate of occupancy. The health department and the liquor permit application both ask for the zoning sign-off.
