Who needs a brewer permit, or the microbrewer permit for a brewpub in Louisiana?

Issued by Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC), at step 5 of 6 in the opening sequence: alcohol permits.

1 of the 20 kinds of business in Louisiana

A microbrewer brews at a single location, up to 12,500 barrels a year, and sells it at retail there on the Class A permit; it may not wholesale, so distribution goes through a licensed wholesaler. A brewer permit is the production route, with taproom sales of its own beer within the limits in Title 26 and self-distribution only under 5,000 barrels. The federal TTB brewer’s notice comes first and the parish or city must approve the premises.

  2. Register for tax
  3. Approve the space
  4. Get the permits for your kind of business
  5. Alcohol permits
  6. Before the first hire
