Who needs a physician performance or supervision of laser and cosmetic medical procedures in Louisiana?

Issued by Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners, at step 4 of 6 in the opening sequence: get the permits for your kind of business.

1 of the 20 kinds of business in Louisiana

Laser surgery may be performed only by a person licensed to practice medicine, dentistry, podiatry or veterinary medicine, and the Board treats laser hair removal, light treatments and chemical skin treatments as the practice of medicine: done by a physician, or by a nurse or other trained non-physician under the direct supervision of a Louisiana licensed physician. Injectables are prescription medicine and follow the same rule. A cosmetology or esthetics license does not cover any of it, so the medical side of the business belongs to a licensed physician.
