Who needs an early learning center license (Type I, II or III) in Louisiana?

Issued by Louisiana Department of Education, Licensing Division, at step 4 of 6 in the opening sequence: get the permits for your kind of business.

1 of the 20 kinds of business in Louisiana

A center caring for seven or more children is licensed. A Type III license is for a center that takes state or federal child care funds (and is the one most centers need); Type II takes no public funds beyond the food program and Type I is for church-run centers. Apply with the zoning approval, the fire marshal’s and the health department’s approvals, the floor plan and the director’s credentials; criminal background checks cover every staff member before the licensing inspection.
