Who needs on-premises liquor license (Class I restaurant, Class XI restaurant and lounge, or malt and wine only) in Maine?

Issued by Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations, Division of Liquor Licensing and Enforcement, after approval by the municipal officers, at step 5 of 6 in the opening sequence: alcohol permits.

6 of the 20 kinds of business in Maine

Apply through the Bureau’s BELLS portal; the municipal officers hold a public hearing and approve the premises first, then the Bureau inspects and issues. A Class A restaurant must have a kitchen and serve meals; a bar without that food business holds a lounge class instead. Sunday service depends on a local vote. Ask the Division for the wine only and malt and wine fees when you apply.
