Who needs a daycare center license in Idaho?

Issued by Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Child Care Licensing, at step 4 of 6 in the opening sequence: get the permits for your kind of business.

1 of the 20 kinds of business in Idaho

A center cares for 13 or more children; 7 to 12 is a group daycare facility and up to 6 a family daycare home. Since House Bill 243 took effect on July 1, 2025 the state licenses every daycare and cities such as Boise, Idaho Falls and Coeur d’Alene no longer issue their own, though the city still signs off on zoning, building and fire. Apply with the fire inspection, the health inspection, the training records and a background check for every staff member and adult on the premises.
