Who needs a brewer’s license with sample room in Montana?

Issued by Montana Department of Revenue, Alcoholic Beverage Control Division, at step 5 of 6 in the opening sequence: alcohol permits.

1 of the 20 kinds of business in Montana

A small brewery (100 to 60,000 barrels a year) may serve its own beer in a sample room without a retail license: between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., no more than 48 ounces per customer a day, and no more than 2,000 barrels a year on the premises. Serving later, pouring more or adding wine and spirits needs a retail license from the row above. The federal TTB brewer’s notice comes first.
