Laser hair removal and other waveform energy treatments are medical procedures. A medical assistant may run a non-incisive, non-ablative device only after the certification the rule requires and only with the supervising physician immediately available on the premises; injectables are prescribed and given by a physician, physician assistant or nurse. Estheticians may not operate lasers. Any advertisement for a cosmetic medical procedure must name the physician responsible.
