Who needs a certified food handler (certified food protection manager) in Indiana?

Issued by Local health department, under 410 IAC 7-22-15, at step 4 of 6 in the opening sequence: get the permits for your kind of business.

9 of the 20 kinds of business in Indiana

Every retail food establishment needs at least one certified food handler, responsible for all hours of operation though not required on site at all times, holding a certificate from an exam recognized by the Conference for Food Protection. A new establishment has six months from opening to comply and three months to replace a certified person who leaves. The rule is exam based, and an online food handler card does not satisfy it.
