1 of the 20 kinds of business in Maryland

Laser treatments, intense pulsed light, injectables and ablative peels are cosmetic medical procedures: performed by a physician, delegated to a physician assistant or assigned to another licensed provider such as a nurse whose board allows it, after the training the rule requires. The physician does the first assessment, writes the treatment plan and generally supervises on site. Estheticians and cosmetologists may not receive delegation, and an unlicensed person who performs these procedures faces a fine of up to $50,000.
